About Us
Maxillofacial Prosthodontics is a subspecialty of the dental specialty, Prosthodontics that provides cosmetic and functional rehabilitation for infants, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital or acquired craniofacial conditions. These include cleft lip and palate, head and neck cancer, and facial trauma. Maxillofacial prosthodontists are key members of the rehabilitative team offering both intraoral and extraoral prostheses.
The American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics (AAMP) was founded in 1953 by a group of dentists with the common goal of improving the quality of life for these individuals through clinical care, research and education. The Academy hosts an annual scientific session where colleagues meet to share new ideas and treatment techniques. The Academy also supports the Maxillofacial Prosthodontic training programs throughout the country.
The Maxillofacial Foundation was founded in 1998 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization under the National Heritage Foundation. It serves as an advocate for the AAMP and the patient population it serves. The Foundation provides grants to support research and educational endeavors that enhance and expand the practice of Maxillofacial Prosthodontics.
